¿Cómo, cuándo llegaste al wake? ¿primer park? ¿Alguna anécdota?

Empecé a hacer wakeboard en Inselsee Allgaeu, un cable park hermoso en el sur de Alemania. Está en el mismo pueblo donde iba al colegio.

Tenía unos 11 años cuando probé por primera vez el esquí acuático y el wakeboard. Muy rápido empecé a fijarme en todos esos obstáculos de plástico y le rogaba a mi papá que me comprara una tabla para poder empezar a probarlos. Un año después tuve mi primer wakeboard propio y, desde ese momento, iba prácticamente todos los días.

How and when did you get into wakeboarding? First home cable? Any story or moment that made you go “yeah… this is it”?
I started wakeboarding at Inselsee Allgaeu. A very beautiful cable park in southern Germany. It’s located in the same town where I went to school. I was around 11 years old at my first waterski and wakeboard attempts. Quickly all these plastic obstacles caught my attention and a begged my dad to get me my own wakeboard so I could try hitting these features. After I got my first own wakeboard about a year later, I went there pretty much every day from this point on.

¿Qué haces en tu vida? ¿trabajas? ¿Profesión?

A los 15 años terminé la escuela y empecé una formación profesional en Bosch para convertirme en mecánico industrial. Después de tres años y medio, con el título terminado, empecé a trabajar en Sesitec.

En esa época también empezaron a mejorar mis contratos de sponsor y comencé a ganar un poco de dinero con el wakeboard. Unos cuatro años más tarde llegué al punto en el que podía vivir del wake durante todo el año.

What does life look like outside wakeboarding? Do you work? Study? What’s your “real life” profession, if there is one? When I turned 15 and finished school and started an apprenticeship at Bosch to become an industrial mechanic. After 3 1/2 year and a finished degree in industrial mechanic I started working at Sesitec. That’s also when my sponsor deals started to get better and I started to make a little bit of money with wakeboarding. About four years later I got to a point where I’ve earned enough to live from wakeboarding all year long.

Recomendación para buscar sponsors. ¿Anécdota de cómo llegaste a red bull?

Veo muy seguido gente que se acerca a este deporte solo porque quiere sponsors y hacerlo una profesión. Para mí, esa es la forma equivocada de ver un deporte que, antes que nada, es un hobby y algo que debería ser divertido.

Disfrutá el wakeboard al máximo: aprender trucos nuevos, conectar con la gente de esta comunidad, compartir sesiones. Si eso realmente te apasiona, las marcas van a aparecer solas y te van a pedir que representes su producto. Sé abierto, buena onda y hacelo porque te gusta. El resto llega solo.

Red Bull se contactó conmigo en 2012, justo después de que terminé mi formación como mecánico. El team manager de ese momento me escribió por Facebook preguntándome cuáles eran mis planes y si ya tenía sponsor de bebidas energéticas.

En ese momento estaba hablando con Monster, pero no había firmado nada. Al día siguiente nos juntamos a cenar y decidí bastante rápido que Red Bull era la mejor opción para mí.

Any advice for riders looking for sponsors? And… how did Red Bull enter the picture for you? Any story behind that? I see a lot of times people pursuing this sport only because they want to get sponsored and want make this a profession. I my opinion this is the wrong way of looking at a fun sport that is first of all a hobby. You should enjoy this sport to the fullest. Learning new tricks, connecting with people from this bubble should be fun and interesting for you. That’s the only way brands will come up to you and ask you to represent their product. Be open minded, friendly and do it because you enjoy it! The rest comes itself. Red Bull approached me in 2012 just after I finished my mechanic degree. The team manager back then send me a Facebook message asking what my plans are and if I have any energy drink sponsor yet? I was at the time already talking to Monster but didn’t sign anything yet. So the next day we met up for dinner and I quickly decided that Red Bull would be the better option to go with.

Sabemos que tenés feature´s Unit, se los ve muy divertido. Si tuvieras que hacer otro módulo nuevo, cual seria? ¿Te animas a dibujarlo?

Pregúntale a David de UNIT sobre mí, jaja. La verdad es que soy pésimo inventando obstáculos. Para mí, todo este formato de “signature features” ya quedó un poco viejo. Hoy casi todos los wakeboarders buenos tienen su propio obstáculo y ya no tiene nada de especial.

Prefiero andar en parks más básicos, con un buen diseño general y un layout bien pensado.

We know you have your own UNIT feature and it looks insanely fun. If you could design a brand new obstacle, what would it be like? Would you be down to sketch it? Ask David from Unit about me haha. I’m actually the worst at coming up with feature ideas. In my eyes this whole signature series format is outdated. Every other good wakeboarder has its own „signature obstacle“ now. There is nothing special about it anymore. I rather rider basic parks which have a generally nice park layout.

¿Hasta que edad se anda?? El futuro del wake? objetivo de vida

Espero que mi carrera siga así por un buen tiempo más. La verdad es que me encantaría mantener este estilo de vida para siempre, jaja. Como sabés, también hago snowboard, skate, surf y ciclismo de ruta, así que voy a intentar encontrar mi lugar para seguir practicando todos esos deportes lo máximo posible.

Mi objetivo de vida ya está cumplido: tengo una casa, trabajo de lo que más me gusta y ojalá pueda seguir diciendo eso durante algunos años más.

Until what age do you think you can really ride? How do you see the future of wakeboarding? Life goal, inside or outside wake? I hope my career goes on like this for a while. I really just would love to continue this lifestyle for ever haha. As you might know I also snowboard, skateboard, surf, road cycle a lot. So I’m going to try and find my place where I can keep doing these sports as much as possible. Life goal is already achieved. I have a house, do what I love most as my job and hopefully can say that for a few more years.
